Tamagoyaki has such an undeserved reputation. A Japanese omelet of sorts, Tamagoyaki is generally presented as an elaborately folded egg roll, comprising many, many thin layers. Its appearance, coupled with the specific equipment needed for its creation often leads people to thinking it falls into the advanced category of cooking – it doesn’t! Contrary to popular belief, this Bento box staple isn’t all that difficult to make, providing you have a quality Tamagoyaki pan, and a little patience!
Cooking Japanese rolled eggs in anything other than a Tamagoyaki pan isn’t recommended. This is because most Western frying pans are manufactured using layers of metals to allow even distribution of heat. Our Professional Japanese Tamagoyaki Pan, on the other hand, is made from copper, which affords greater control over heat direction, and targeted conductivity – essential for creating those thin omelet layers. Tamagoyaki pans also differ from conventional pans in that they are rectangular – a feature that not only aids when rolling Tamagoyaki, but also eliminates the arduous task of trimming your egg roll post-cooking.
Noted for its high quality and excellent conductivity, our 7-inch, Professional Japanese Copper Tamagoyaki Pan is the ideal size for a 4-egg Tamagoyaki (the maximum recommended for a 7-8 inch pan). And if you’re concerned about rolling – don’t be. Handmade in Japan, our traditional-style Tamagoyaki comes with a rectangular, Cypress wood lid as standard, designed with two, conveniently spaced handles for a solid grip when rolling.
Worried about maintaining a copper pan? Whether copper, stainless steel, or cast iron, all good quality pans require a degree of thorough cleaning to ensure their longevity. And though copper is more prone to tarnishing, this is easily taken care of with the copper cleaner included – or by rubbing down with a little tomato ketchup!
